Friday...OH FRIIIIIDAAAAY...where are yoooou?

The back to school routine is still being painfully and yes, tortuously dragged out as we speak. Owen is back - and seems to be settling in fine. I have a very good feeling about his teacher. She seems to run a tight ship - thats exactly what we need. Owen's kindergarten teacher drove me nuts. She had a saccarine voice and seemed to continue the rhetoric with the parents. I've never been into the over melodious child-speak. Maybe thats why my kids are so weird.

Aidan is not transitioning as gracefully. He is way too tired when we get home. Despite my better judgement (and visions of him playing with the plunger in the toilet as he did last night) - I put him for a nap. Sleep did not come. Good. And bad. Tired toddlers are an impending nuclear disaster. Its like walking through a mine field. One misplaced "no" and...

Harry hasn't even started yet! Tomorrow is his big day. Today he stayed with my neighbour Rosie, who mostly speaks french. I don't think she understood a word he said...because Harry can fill dead air so effectively. His teacher needs to be warned. He's not an over active type. He is just one continuous conversation...we could make energizer bunny references...but I think I've expressed his incessant chatter quite succinctly.

My first day was today. It started at about 3 am with Aidan running out of sleep, and bunking with him. Susan mentioned the sensation of a bed rail. Oh yeah. Stick it in harder baby.

In all my first class went pretty well. It was not much of a class - more so an orientation. I don't lecture, give exams or tests or use a prefab text. Yeah. much explaining. And of the 50 kids I spoke to this morning...only ONE had even heard of a blog, let alone kept one. I thought this was some trendy thing? Well, by the end of September I will have offered the internet 100 more bloggers to the fold. I think, once we get started, I might "tag" some students, ask some interesting questions (relevant to the course), and have them tag others in the class. Hey, here's a thought...I could even ask my readers here to volunteer a question or two. Hmmm. (Ideas brewing...one moment). More on that later.

And Eric is busy with some compulsary company golf thing. He's mostly at the 19th hole. And would have spent most of his day there. I am here with a radioactive toddler, after my very first day of work, and he's out with the boys. Am I impressed? Do I really need to answer this?

Cool - what sort of questions are you looking for?

Thats what I need to think about. Being vague would be interesting. What sort of questions would you like to ask first year Religious Studies students? This could get really interesting...

Ooh, the bed rail. THAT will get you looking for God, I tell you what. Someone needs to invent a cushy padded rail, for the parents who wind up in the tot's bed. The Mommy Rail!

We are also struggling with the nap=up late/no nap=dinner with the Spawns of Satan. We have no good answers, but it sucks. Whoo hoo! (Wade is chasing Charlie back to his bed as I write this, for like the tenth time since we turned the light out. Sigh.)

Let us know how we can help the students! I'm all about tough questions. Heh heh heh.

Welcome back to school! I'm so used to playing musical beds. I hardly notice it anymore. Some nights, I sleep in three or four places. Hmmm...sounds more exciting than it is.

Hmn, how about:

"Imagine you are a cave man, and religion does not yet exist.

Your wife dies, and your young daughter asks 'Where's Mommy? Is she OK?'

What do you tell her?"

I'll be interested in hearing how the blog stuff goes, in your work. I want to try it with my students.
