Parental Valhalla, Nirvana, and Heaven

Last night, I spent a good deal of time reviewing posts past. Wow, what a difference a couple of years make. I am thinking of this mostly in the context of the kids. Eric left this morning for a trip to California...for training. Yes, I am jealous. When I get training, I get thrown a manual and told "good luck". I digress. Before, his adventures meant more complexity, toil and of course vomit. Now, the kids have been thoroughly domesticated. I can sleep in...and its normal. I wake up and they are curled up in their jammies watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating cheerios. Hello! This is awesome. I have heard all the forewarnings from more senior experienced parents...when they are babies, they say "Oh wait until they are 2", and then when they are, someone will warn that things get more challengening then they are 4 and so forth. Let me be the first to offer parents some optimism. When all the kids are over the age of 6, its awesome. No more poopy diapers! No more running away and alerting the police! All they need is a towel and someone to turn on the shower when its time to bathe. And now, we are in the era of chores. They actually clean up after themselves, when nagged sufficiently, and at times without any provocation. Even better, when I am sitting on my lazy but and blogging, I can say "Harry can you boil the kettle so I can make some tea?" His response "Okay!" Hello! Kids make up for the all the undue horror they unleash on their parents when they are in the under 4 category. Now we are dealing with more mature issues. Owen has a crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt (and wants to know my opionion on whether I think she is pretty), Harry asks me to help him with his creative writing, about Buraydah the Dragon and the tower where he tends the Orb of Fire, which houses the 10 dimensions of destruction and Aidan claims he is a "hot ticket". So, even though Eric is gone, I hardly notice, in the sense that I am not pulled in three different directions 24 hours straight without reprieve. Ah.

Wow... This is good news! I'm on the cusp of this nirvana - my boys are 6 and 4. In a few years, I'll be all set :)

Made it to SoCal okay, albeit 3 hours delayed by mechanical problems in Denver...

I guess in a few years, it will be "Hey Owen! Get in the car and drive to the store and get a container of milk, a loaf of bread, and a stick of butter."

I'll call you at a reasonable hour my love...

Eric
